I’m Laura, a Master’s educated teacher turned full-time mom. Before becoming a mom, I spent 12 years teaching students from kindergarten to middle school. Working with over 1000 students over the course of my teaching career solidified something I already believed: that kids learn best through authentic, creative, and enriching experiences.
I left teaching to be home with my daughter after she was born, and I love my current job of full-time mom! My daughter is now 2 years old, and being home with her is such a gift. It comes with some challenges, though: spending my days with a toddler left me feeling disconnected from my friends, bored with playing the same kid games over and over, and always striving to give my daughter experiences that help her development.
Card kits turned out to be the solution to all of these problems! I created my first card kit as a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation when my girl was just a year old. That fundraiser was so successful that I repeated it the following year, and Let’s Send Cards was born! Making cards together gave me and my daughter something new and creative to do. I found myself using my education background to encourage her to count things on the card or to sort some of the supplies, and this led the way for extension activities to be included with each card kit! We mail our cards to friends and always get a phone call, text, or video chat to thank us. This gives me the adult interaction I once craved!
We still donate a portion of the proceeds from each card kit to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, so there is the added bonus of helping others and teaching our kids about philanthropy. I hope that these card kits bring as much joy, connection, and enrichment to your lives as they do ours.
